Code of Conduct ~ Rules of Fair Play

Code of Conduct for Players

  • Always play by both the letter and spirit of the laws of the game.
    Never argue with an official.
  • Remember that winning is not everything, that playing the game is what it is all about.
  • Show appreciation for good players and good plays by both teams.
  • Control my temper and not be a show off.
  • Play fairly at all times.

Code of Conduct for Coaches

  • Remind my players that winning is not the only measure of success.
  • Encourage my players and offer only constructive criticism.
  • Teach my players that officials are an important part of the game and that they and their decisions should be respected at all times.
  • Encourage sportsman-like behaviour at all times, both on and off the field.
  • Give every participant a chance to play equal time and to learn and improve their skills.
  • Remember that my actions speak louder than words and I am a role model to both players and spectators.
  • I will not use coarse language, nor will I harass players, coaches, officials or spectators.

Code of Conduct for Spectators

  • I will remember that the children participate in the game for their enjoyment, not mine.
  • I will encourage the children to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • I will make all the children feel like winners every time by offering praise for competing fairly and trying hard.
  • I will never question the officials’ judgement or honesty in public.
  • I will support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s games.
  • I will respect, support and show appreciation for the volunteer coaches who give their time to coach our children.
  • I will not have unrealistic expectations and will remember that the players are not professionals and cannot be judged by professional standards or above their age level.
  • I will not use coarse language, nor will I harass players, coaches, officials or other spectators.

Code of Conduct for Club Officials

  • I will do my best to see all players are given the same chance to participate, regardless of gender, ability or ethnic background.
  • I will make sure that all equipment and facilities are safe and match the athlete’s ages and abilities.
  • I will make sure that the age and maturing level of the participants are considered in the program development, rule enforcement and scheduling.
  • I will remember that play is done for its own sake and make sure that winning is kept in proper perspective.
  • I will distribute the fair play/code of conduct to spectators, coaches and athletes.
  • I will make sure that coaches and officials are capable of promoting fair play as well as the development of good technical skills and I will work with them to become certified.
  • I will deal with coaches, spectators, officials or players if they cannot abide by the league/club rules of fair play/code of conduct in the appropriate and predetermined manner.
